I realize I'm probably going to catch hell for this, but I think this is really quite brilliant. The point of art is to generate a reaction. Given that the animal was actually well cared for, that the point was to highlight how our physical environment can radically alter our perceptions, and that over a million people put their names down on a petition objecting to his work because they fell into his trap, well... it might very well be one of the most successful pieces of conceptual art ever.
Assuming that the dog actually was not harmed, of course.
