God bless California. And serious props to the Guvernator for doing the right thing on this. on the other hand, its not at all surprising that the right is losing their marbles over today's ruling. Its also not surprising that they have no idea what they are talking about. The ruling, for example, upholds the position taken not once but twice by the CA legislature. And those "unelected judges" that they love to rail about? In CA, they are elected. Get your facts straight people.
Just how wretched are McCain's lobbyist pals? Go read this. And this, this, and this. McCain has apparently decided that it might be time to start vetting his advisors. Given the power the president has to appoint hundreds of people to the executive branch, this would seem to be a serious problem for McCain.
I keep hoping that we've hit bottom in the long list of morally outrageous programs created by this administration in the name of "national security," something new comes along and disgusts me once again. Go read this story from the NYT about how we're grossly mistreating innocent visitors on holiday to the US, and this one from the Washington Post about how "the U.S. government has injected hundreds of foreigners it has deported with dangerous psychotropic drugs against their will." It's as if someone was actively trying to model our national security state after the worst abuses on the USSR.
McCain has a new plan for Iraq: Hope. In a major speech today, he declared that he "hopes" our troops will be home by 2013, and that Iraq will be a functioning, flourishing democracy. OK, I can play this game too! I hope that in 2013 I will own a unicorn farm, a house on the moon, and a sea-horse that shoots lasers from its eyes.
A fantastic interview with Rachel Maddow on NPR's On the Media. Hey MSNBC! Give her a show and I promise I will watch it every night!
Yes, someone really does need to "kick Rove's ass," don't they?
