Sabato on Obama's Veep

Oops.

In my post predicting that Obama would pick Webb as his VP, I quoted Virginia politics guru Larry Sabato. Sabato's quote came from the Allen-Webb Senate race, but I thought it might apply here too. Except....

Now Sabato is predicting that Obama will pick a Virginian, but not my Virginian. He thinks its gonna be former VA Gov Mark Warner.

Warner's biggest weakness would be national security, the area that would be Webb's greatest strength. His strengths would be his ability to appeal to white/rural/Southern voters and his entrepreneurial background. In some ways, Warner's appeal there would be similar to Bloomberg's, except of course that Warner is from the South.

Both candidates, however, share a common flaw: selecting them would take them out of the US Senate, putting a filibuster proof majority out of reach. And that thought will undoubtedly weigh heavily on Obama as he makes his choice....
