So a few days back, Obama announced a series of proposals designed to increase volunteerism among high school and college students. I thought it wouldn't be controversial. I thought wrong.
There's a weird irony at work when Sen. Barack Obama, the black presidential candidate who will allegedly scrub the stain of racism from the nation, vows to run afoul of the constitutional amendment that abolished slavery.
For those who don't remember, the 13th Amendment says: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime ... shall exist within the United States."I guess in Obama's mind it must be a crime to be born or to go to college.
I realize that Jonah is paid to sling shit for a living, but even so... wow.
Obama wants to use economic incentives (i.e. tax credits) to encourage more young people to volunteer with both private and public organizations - including churches! - and Goldberg compares this to slavery?
Oh wait, there's a caveat:
Though Goldberg eventually admitted that "national service isn't slavery," he insisted that it "contributes to a slave mentality, at odds with American tradition."
I'm sure our soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan - remember, military service is included as an option in Obama's "national service" proposals - will love to hear that they are living under a "slave mentality."
Seriously, I don't know what else to say other than that this guy is just fucked in the head.
